Marcy Levy Shankman has been training and consulting in leadership development and organizational effectiveness with higher education institutions, non-profit organizations, and high schools since 1998. She has also designed, facilitated, and written curriculum for numerous leadership development experiences, including professional development seminars, board and staff retreats, and conference workshops. An accomplished and prolific writer, Dr. Shankman most recently co-authored Emotionally intelligent leadership:  A guide for college students (Jossey-Bass, 2008) with Dr. Scott J. Allen.  They have also collaborated on four companion resources to create the series Emotionally intelligent leadership for students:  Inventory, Facilitation and Activiites Guide, Development Guide, and Student Workbook.  Anticipated publication date for these resources is July 2010.  On her own, Dr. Shankman has published two other assessments - EI full spectrum and EI profile: An emotional intelligence self-assessment (2003).

Dr. Shankman has applied her unique insights and capabilities to deliver meaningful and lasting impact for a broad spectrum of organizations. Current and past clients include Grants Manager's Network, Voices for Ohio's Children, Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, Invest in Children of Cuyahoga County, the Junior League of Cleveland, Ohio Grantmakers Forum, Hathaway Brown School, Case Western Reserve University, and Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority.  These clients have sought Dr. Shankman's perspective, expertise, and facilitation skills to design and steward strategic planning initiatives, collaboration projects, and leadership development opportunities.  In each of these efforts, Dr. Shankman develops a unique approach to meet the client's needs, interests, and desired outcomes.

In addition to her consulting clients, Dr. Shankman currently teaches as a Presidential Fellow for the SAGES program of Case Western Reserve University and as an Instructor in the David Brain Leadership Program of Baldwin-Wallace College.  She will also be teaching in the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Management in the spring of 2011.  Since 1996 she has served as a Lead Facilitator for LeaderShape, Inc. Prior to establishing her training and consulting practice, Dr. Shankman held professional positions with the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, the Hillel Foundation at The George Washington University, and the Office of Orientation Services at the University of Iowa.

In addition to a Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary and a Master of Arts from the University of Maryland at College Park, Dr. Shankman earned her Ph.D. from Indiana University in higher education administration in 2001, with organizational creation as her dissertation focus.

Dr. Shankman currently volunteers for the United Way's Organizational Assessment Committee and her synagogue. She also serves as a Reunion Campaign Co-Chair for the College of William and Mary and as the co-chair of the PTO at a local elementary school.

Dr. Shankman lives in Shaker Heights, Ohio with her husband Brett, daughter Rebecca, and son Joshua.
